Arriving before my program start date

Dec-15

Travelling alone was very fun for me because I love meeting new people from different countries and talking to them. My flight left Boston at around 2 p.m. despite the fact that it was scheduled to leave at 12 p.m.. After one hour, I landed in New York (JFK airport) and stayed there for two hours, sitting tight for my next flight to Paris. In JFK, shockingly, there was no WiFi and I was completely guttered because I didn't bring anything else to keep me occupied. I got up and walked around for some time and went into a souvenir store because I had forgotten to purchase my Host family a gift. I heard someone speaking French so I went up to them and started a conversation and asked if they were taking the same flight as me and they were. I didn't see him after that but I also talked to the person who was sitting next to me even though they didn't speak French.

Even though the plane was very uncomfortable, once we landed, my mood changed completely and I was happy because I knew that the up and coming months would be the best months of my life. I got my bags and headed out to meet my uncle who was picking me up. I was sitting in the car exhausted and sleepy but couldn't resist looking outside and seeing all the Christmas lights and decorations. I've been to France a few times before but not around Christmas time so I was really looking forward to seeing how the French celebrate Christmas versus how Americans celebrate it.

Dec-20

Because I arrived before Christmas, there were a lot of things going on so I didn't want to miss out. Right now, I am in a town in the region of Picardy called Compiegne. You've probably never heard of it before but it's in Northern France and just under an hour away from Paris.

This week, I went to town because there was a "Marche de Noel." This christmas market is open to the public and is full of gifts and treats such as pancakes, foie gras, pancakes, wooden toys, champagne, jewelry and much more. I was quite frightened at first when I arrived because I was there alone and I would have to order my own food in French, but once I approached one of the stands, every one of my feelings of trepidation left and I could completely understand what the man was saying. Even though I can understand, my replies are still either very short sentences or one-word replies.
